KABUL -- Youth and members of civil society organisations have expressed support for the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), boosting the troops' morale, officials say.

"The wave of support from the Afghan society continues to boost the morale of the ANSF throughout Afghanistan," Ministry of Defense spokesman Dawlat Waziri told Salaam Times.

During the past year, a large number of Afghans joined the Afghan National Army (ANA) and also came out to publicly support the ANA's efforts to serve and protect the country.

"Afghan youth and members of the civil society were welcomed in early June by the ANA 111th Infantry Division, where they announced their full support to the ANSF," Waziri said.

Praise for ANSF heroes

"Like the religious scholars and community elders around the country [before them], this time the youth and civil society members declared their full support to their heroes," he said.

The importance of the event in Kabul was reflected in the presence of acting Defence Minister Gen. Abdullah Habibi and 111th Infantry Division commander Maj. Gen. Abdul Nasir Ziaee, Waziri told reporters.

During the event, Fardin Fedaie, chairman of the Afghanistan Youth Civil Society Association, praised ANSF members for their tireless protection of the nation.

"All Afghans owe the peace and security in our towns and villages to our heroes, without whom we would not have peace and progress," Fedaie told Salaam Times. "We are here today to vow our support to the ANSF."

To the troops Fedaie said, "You won our hearts; you deserve a huge salute from the nation. We all are here to do this."

"We will never leave you alone and will be with you until the end," he said.

Sgt. Sefatullah Safi of the 111th Infantry Division thanked the youth and civil society members for their support.

"Seeing our brothers and sisters here shows us that we have the full support of our people," he said at the event. "We will protect our people from the enemies of peace."

With the increasing support of the Afghan people, the sons and daughters serving in the ANSF are more determined than ever to defeat the enemies of peace, he said. "We are from among you. We will pay with our lives to save the country and nation."

Afghans united against enemies of peace

Fawzia Rahimi, another member of Afghan civil society, expressed satisfaction with the ANSF's work to establish peace and defeat insurgents.

"I pray to almighty God to protect our ANSF and bless them with success," she told Salaam Times, adding that as a result of their hard work, "We can send our children to school and do our jobs in a peaceful society."

"We believe in your efforts to bring peace and defeat the enemies. God protect you and Afghanistan."

Gen. Habibi thanked the visitors for their support, calling it "very encouraging to the success of the ANA".

"The sons and daughters of this country fighting in the ANA know that they will prevail to defeat the enemies of peace because you believe in them," he said.

Habibi encouraged Afghan youth and asked parents to send their sons and daughters to join the ranks of the ANSF.

Maj. Gen. Ziaee described the growing support for the ANSF as "winning the hearts of the Afghan people".

"Religious scholars and community elders across the country and now youth and members of the civil society expressed their full support to the ANSF," he said. "The people's support of the ANSF strikes further fear in the hearts of the enemies of peace as they continue to lose on the battlefield."
