KUNUR -- A coalition air strike Thursday evening (October 12) killed at least 20 "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) fighters in Sawkai district of Kunar province, say local officials.
The air strike took place in the Badgor area of Dewa Gul valley, said Jumagul Hemat, Kunar provincial police chief.
"The air strike targeted a number of ISIS fighters while they were holding a meeting," said the police chief. A top ISIS commander identified as Lynda was among the dead, he said.
"Some heavy weaponry belonging to ISIS fighters, including an 82-millimeter caliber mortar and two rocket launchers, was also destroyed in the air strike,” he added.
Local residents, speaking to Salaam Times, confirmed there was an ISIS meeting in the area. They said the strike was made after the meeting was over.
