43 Afghan militants, 5 troops killed

KABUL – At least 45 militants and five Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed in violent incidents across Afghanistan, officials said.

Troops killed at least 29 militants in a 24-hour span, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said June 22. They included six "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) members.

Five soldiers were killed, the MoD added, according to the Afghanistan Times.

A recent air strike by the Afghan air force in Marjah District, Helmand Province, killed at least 12 Taliban, including a commander, Khaama Press reported June 23, quoting the MoD.

At least two militants recently were blown up by their own explosives in Alingar District, Laghman Province, Khaama Press reported, quoting the ANA. The militants were carrying a bomb meant for security forces. Two other militants were wounded.
