Staff Report

KABUL -- Australia will provide an additional US $300m (20.5 billion AFN) to Afghanistan for development of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), Khaama Press reported July 8.

Australia announced the grant ahead of a NATO summit in Warsaw that will discuss Afghanistan.

The Pacific country will make an additional US $100m (6.9 billion AFN)-per-year commitment to the Afghan National Army (ANA) and Afghan National Police (ANP) from 2018 through 2020, its government said in a statement July 8, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).

Earlier, Australia pledged US $500m (34.3 billion AFN) total to the Afghan forces from 2010 to 2017.

Australia extended its military mission in Afghanistan for an extra six months to mid-2017, with the prospect of further extensions, RFE/RL reported.
