3 militants killed after Kabul hotel attack

KABUL -- Three insurgents, a policeman, five civilians and a former Afghan lawmaker were killed in separate militant attacks in Kabul city and Logar Province.

The three insurgents and the police officer were killed in an August 1 shoot-out following a terrorist attack on the Northgate Hotel, media reported.

The militants stormed the hotel after detonating a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device near the building, Ministry of Interior (MoI) spokesperson Sediq Sediqqi said, according to Khaama Press.

Meanwhile in Azra District, Logar Province, a July 31 roadside bomb killed five civilians including a woman, district administrative chief Hamidullah Hamid told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Also in Kabul, gunmen assassinated former member of parliament Asadullah Hematyar, police said, Khaama Press reported July 31. Hematyar formerly represented Logar Province.
