29 Afghan Taliban killed; militant spy chief held in Balkh

KABUL -- Afghan troops recently killed at least 29 militants in Paktia Province and captured a Taliban intelligence chief in Balkh Province, media reported.

Troops killed at least 29 Taliban in Janikhel and Chamkanai districts, Paktia Province, provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Qader Gul Zadran told Pajhwok Afghan News August 4.

The army and local police (ALP) killed 21 Taliban in Janikhel and 8 in Chamkanai, Zadran said.

National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives in Balkh Province recently detained the deputy Taliban intelligence chief, Khaama Press reported August 3.

The NDS personnel made the arrest in Dehdadi District, Balkh, the NDS said.

Meanwhile, an August 4 roadside bombing in Mehtarlam, Laghman Province, killed a security guard and wounded eight people, including Laghman Provincial Council chairman Mohammad Tawoos Adil, provincial governor's spokesman Sarhadi Zwak said, according to TOLO News.
