Staff Report

KABUL -- At least 86 militants and 8 Afghan troops were killed in multiple provinces in a 24-hour span, Afghan officials said.

The dead included an insurgent commander and five Pakistani militants, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said, according to an August 4 Afghanistan Times report.

Meanwhile, the Afghan air force late August 4 in Kot District, Nangarhar Province, pounded hide-outs of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), Afghan police said, according to Khaama Press.

The air strike against ISIL killed five Pakistanis, the police said. They might have been the same five militants mentioned by the MoD.
