Taliban destruction of Afghan bridge cuts off Tajik cement imports

Staff Report

KABUL -- The Afghan Taliban late August 21 destroyed a bridge between Tajikistan and Kunduz Province, Afghanistan, Afghan authorities say, according to CA-News.org.

Blowing up the bridge has ended the daily arrival of more than 100 Tajik trucks bearing cement and farm produce for Afghan customers, authorities say.

Until the bridge is repaired, the province will have to rely on Pakistan to make up the missing cement and produce. Meanwhile, Tajikistan will lose access to Pakistani fruits and sugar that formerly crossed the bridge in the other direction.
