Army general, police commanders among 36 killed in Kabul

KABUL – At least 36 people were killed in three militant attacks in Kabul September 5, media reported. The dead included an Afghan army general and two police commanders.

Troops killed all three terrorists who holed up in a government building near an international NGO's building in Kabul, Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said September 6, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).

One civilian was killed in the siege that began late September 5, he said, adding that troops rescued about 42 people, according to TOLO News.

Twin bombings near the Defence Ministry killed at least 35 people including a general and two police commanders, officials said, according to TOLO News.

The Taliban claimed responsibility, RFE/RL reported.

Troops September 4 repulsed a militant attack on a military base in Baghlan Province, killing two Taliban, local security officials said September 5, according to Khaama Press.
