Afghan forces kill 180 Taliban in Tirin Kot

TIRIN KOT, Afghanistan -- Security forces killed at least 180 Taliban in Tirin Kot, Uruzgan Province, September 8, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.

The Taliban invaded Tirin Kot early in the day, but reinforcements helped local troops push them back, provincial council chairman Abdul Karim Khadimzai said.

Kandahar provincial police commander Gen. Abdul Raziq and the commander of the 205th Maiwand Corps reached Tirin Kot with their forces and with air support, inflicting heavy casualties on the Taliban, Uruzgan governor's spokesman Dost Muhammad Nayab said.

Eleven police officers were killed, Nayab said.
