Afghan forces kill 113 militants

KABUL -- At least 113 militants, seven Afghan soldiers and three local uprising members were killed during counter-terrorism operations across Afghanistan.

Security forces killed at least 18 Taliban militants during separate clashes in Herat, Faryab and Wardak provinces, officials said September 19, TOLO News reported.

Meanwhile, Afghan security forces repulsed a Taliban attack on four districts of Faryab province early September 19, killing at least 15 attackers, provincial police chief Gen. Muhammad Nabi Elham said, according to TOLO News.

Some 500 Taliban attacked Khwaja Sabz Posh, Ghormach, Almar and Pashtun Kot districts of the province but were defeated with the support of local residents, Elham said. Three local uprising members died during the clash, the residents said.

At least 80 militants and seven Afghan soldiers were killed during countrywide security operations in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said September 18, according to Afghanistan Times.
