Zabul's provincial council head survives bomb attack

ZABUL -- Zabul's provincial council head escaped a bomb attack while two uprising members and as many children were killed in separate incidents of violence in Sar-e-Pul province.

The provincial council head for Zabul Province was on his way on Shah Joy-Qalat highway when a bomb exploded near his vehicle in the Shah Hussain area September 19. However, he remained safe in the attack, governor's spokesman Gul Islam Siyal confirmed, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

Three militants were also killed during a clash with police, another official told Pajhwok Afghan News September 19.

Meanwhile, militants killed two public uprising members and wounded another during a clash in the Doaba area of Sancharak District, Sar-e-Pul Province, governor's spokesman Zabiullah Amani said September 20.

In another incident of violence at least two children were killed when a land mine exploded near a security post on the Sar-e-Pul-to-Jawzjan highway in the Imam Jafar area of Sar-e-Pul province, Pajhwok Afghan News reported September 20.
