Afghan forces kill 260 militants

KABUL -- About 260 militants were killed in recent fighting in Uruzgan Province. Meanwhile, President Ashraf Ghani recently suspended several high-level officials during a surprise visit in Kabul.

Troops killed about 260 Taliban, including foreign militants, in Tirin Kot, Uruzgan Province, provincial governor Mohammad Nazir Kharoti said September 27, according to TOLO News.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) September 26 reported recently apprehending 15 Taliban in Kandahar Province, according to the Afghanistan Times. The suspects are linked to the Taliban Quetta Shura (council), according to the NDS.

Meanwhile, Ghani paid a surprise visit to civilian and military institutions in Kabul September 25, Khaama Press reported. He suspended the police chief of Kabul city Police District 9 and some other high-ranking police officials, his office said in a statement.
