Kunduz cleared, 40 militants killed in Helmand operation

KABUL -- Afghan forces have cleared Kunduz city after nine days of fighting with Taliban, while 40 Taliban were killed in Lashkargah, Helmand province clashes, media reported.

Taliban were flushed out of the Kunduz city after intense gun battle late October 11, provincial police chief Mohammad Masoom Hashemi said, according to Khaama Press. The operations are now currently being conducted in the remote parts of the province, Hashemi added.

At least 50 civilians were killed and over 350 others were wounded during the fight between militants and security forces, the Independent Human Rights Commission of Afghanistan said.

At least 40 militants and some security personnel were killed as clashes were going in Babaji and Chah Anjir localities of Lashkargah, Pajhwok Afghan News reported October 11, quoting Capt. Ahmad Shakil Tasal, deputy spokesman for the 215th Maiwand Military Corp.
