Terrorists' gang busted in Laghman; 62 Taliban surrendered in Sar-i-Pul

KABUL -- A three-member terrorist group was busted in Laghman province, while 62 Taliban surrendered before security forces to join peace process in Sar-i-Pul province.

A terrorist bid was foiled as intelligence operatives arrested a three-member militants' gang, allegedly planning to carry suicide attacks by using a motor bike full of explosives and a magnetic bomb in Mehtarlam city of Laghman province, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement October 17, Afghanistan Times reported.

One person sustained injuries as a bomb attack targeted the vehicle of an adviser of the deputy Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Khan, in Taimani area of Kabul city October 18, Khaama Press reported.

Meanwhile, a 62-member Taliban group renounced insurgency and laid down their weapons in Sar-i-Pul province, the governor Mohammad Zahir Wahdat said, Pajhwok Afghan News reported October 17.

The group was active in Shiram area of the province for last three years, Wahdat said, adding that the surrendered militants handed over 32 Kalashnikovs, two machine gun, three pistols, two rocket launchers and other military equipments to security forces.
