11 militants, 6 tribal elders killed, 19 hostages freed in Nangarhar

JALALABAD -- At least 11 militants and six civilians were killed recently in Nangarhar Province, while troops freed 19 hostages from "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) captivity in the province, officials said.

A suicide bomber October 31 in Jalalabad opened fire on a tribal elders' meeting and then blew himself up, killing at least six Afghans, Ataullah Khogyani, provincial governor's spokesman, said, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

ISIL claimed responsibility.

Afghan forces recently killed at least 11 ISIL members and October 30 freed 19 hostages of ISIL in operations in two districts of Nangarhar, officials said October 31, according to the Afghanistan Times.

Meanwhile, security forces recently captured an ISIL shadow judge during a raid in Deh Bala District, Nangarhar, the Ministry of Interior said November 1, according to Khaama Press.
