Afghan army general killed in copter crash

KABUL -- A November 29 helicopter crash in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, killed an Afghan National Army (ANA) commander, media reported.

General Mohayedin commanded the 207th Corps and was killed in the crash of an Mi-17, Defence Ministry spokesman Mohammad Radmanesh said, according to AFP. Radmanesh attributed the crash to a "technical fault".

Meanwhile, security forces killed at least 23 militants in recent fighting across Afghanistan. At least 14 Taliban and a police officer were killed on November 28 after the Taliban attacked security posts in Nesh District, Kandahar Province, the Afghanistan Times reported.

That same day, security forces arrested a Taliban intelligence chief in Lashkargah, Helmand Province, and killed at least nine militants, including a commander, in Tirin Kot, Uruzgan Province, officials said November 29, according to the Afghanistan Times.

In other news, the Taliban recently killed a couple in a house in Aqcha District, Jawzjan Province, Khaama Press reported November 29, quoting provincial police chief Abdul Hafiz Khashi.
