Afghan Taliban face financial crisis, the group confirms

Staff Report

KABUL -- The Afghan Taliban are facing a financial crisis as donors reject the group for adopting tactics that primarily kill civilians, the London Guardian reported November 29, quoting Mullah Rahmatullah Kakazada, a senior diplomat during the Taliban's rule of Afghanistan (1996-2001).

"These people who give money don't want to spend it on mines that kill children," he told the Guardian.

Infighting within the Taliban has disrupted the group's ability to "tax" farmers of poppy crops, the Guardian added.
