KABUL -- Workers in Kabul recently completed the first phase of restoration of historic Darulaman Palace, Khaama Press reported Thursday (December 8).

President Ashraf Ghani and government CEO Abdullah Abdullah jointly inaugurated restoration work of the palace in May. The now-ruined palace was built during the reign of King Amanullah Khan in the 1920s.

The palace will host high-level foreign delegations and serve as a national museum as well someday, Ghani said at a meeting held inside the palace to discuss its restoration.

The first phase of renovation included cleaning up the ruin and setting up scaffolds.
