Afghan forces launch Operation Shafaq 2

URUZGAN, Afghanistan --Troops Friday (December 9) began Operation Shafaq 2 in south-eastern Afghanistan, and killed at least 19 militants recently in Uruzgan and Parwan provinces, media reported.

Shafaq 2 is meant to wipe out insurgents in Paktia, Paktika, Logar and Ghazni provinces, Thunder 203rd Corps spokesman Fazal Khuda said, according to a TOLO News report of Sunday (December 11).

Insurgents who refuse to surrender will be annihilated, Paktia Governor Zalmai Wisa said.

Troops killed 18 militants recently in Uruzgan Province, provincial police chief Wali Jan Sarhadi said Monday (December 12), according to TOLO News.

Meanwhile, police conducting a raid recently killed a Taliban commander in Syagard District, Parwan Province, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said in a statement Monday (December 12), Pajhwok Afghan News reported.

A roadside bomb Sunday (December 11) killed three civilians in Shinkay District, Zabul Province, local police officials said, according to Khaama Press.
