KABUL -- The 57 journalists killed around the world in 2016 while doing their job include 10 Afghans, Reporters Without Borders reported Monday (December 19).
In Afghanistan, all 10 slain reporters were targeted for their profession.
A suicide bomber in January in Kabul killed seven of them, including three women. The victims were riding a mini-bus used by TOLO TV. The Taliban claimed responsibility.
The total of 57 worldwide so far represents a decline from the 67 slain in all of 2015, but Reporters Without Borders attributed the drop to journalists fleeing "countries that became too dangerous, especially Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan and Burundi".
