PAKTIA, Afghanistan -- The Afghan Counter Narcotics Police (CNP) recently incinerated 191.2 tonnes of drugs in Paktia Province and made six arrests, the Afghanistan Times reported Monday (December 19).

The CNP's drug haul last week in Ahamad Abad village, Paktia Province, included 189.5 tonnes of hashish, 1.7 tonnes of opium and 18kg of heroin, Deputy Interior Minister for Counter Narcotics Baz Muhammad Ahmadi said.

All those narcotics were torched.

The destroyed drugs had a street value of US $50m (3.3 billion AFN) in Afghanistan and 10 times that abroad, Ahmadi said.

During the Paktia operation, the CNP destroyed 44 drug labs, he added.

In two other recent operations in Paktia and Nangarhar, the CNP arrested six suspects accused of possessing about 1 tonne of opium, he said.
