KABUL -- The Afghan Taliban released nine kidnapped athletes in Maidan Wardak Province, the provincial governor's spokesman Abdur Rahman Mangal confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News Thursday (December 22).
The Taliban kidnapped the athletes Tuesday (December 20) from a vehicle in Jalrez District. They released three of them the same day and the remaining six after local elders' mediation Wednesday (December 21), Mangal added.
The Taliban released the hostages without any deal, Mangal said.
