Taliban blow up 6 Afghan bridges

Staff Report

LASHKARGAH, Afghanistan -- The Taliban blew up at least six bridges and killed a soldier in Helmand Province, officials said Wednesday (December 28).

The bridge explosions occurred Sunday (December 25), all on the Helmand-to-Kandahar highway, Helmand governor's spokesman Omar Zwak told Pahwok Afghan News.

Workers already have rebuilt three of the bridges so far, he said, adding that one Afghan National Army soldier was killed in recent fighting in Helmand.

Militants suffered heavy casualties as troops fought to re-open the road, Zwak said.
