Afghan forces arrest 3 Iranian terrorism suspects

Staff Report

HERAT -- Afghan authorities are holding three Iranian nationals in connection with terrorism charges in Herat Province, Khaama Press reported Wednesday (January 11).

The Iranians had orders to target individuals in the province, Fazal-ur-Rehman Khadem, a provincial counter-terrorism directorate official, said.

The Iranians have not confessed, but police suspect their involvement in many targeted killings, Khadem said.

The arrests came amid reports that the Taliban and Iran are forming a nexus to destabilise Afghanistan and to battle the rival "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL).
