21 militants killed, key Taliban commander held in Afghanistan

KABUL -- At least 21 militants were killed and a key Taliban commander was captured in Afghanistan over the past two days.

Six Taliban militants including a commander were killed by their own rocket that they were planning to fire at Lashkargah, Helmand Province, Sunday (February 19), officials said, according to Khaama Press.

Troops killed 15 members of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) in Operation Shaheen 25 in Nangarhar Province, Pajhwok Afghan News reported Tuesday (February 21).

National Directorate of Security (NDS) agents captured a Taliban leader in Logar Province after he returned from Pakistan, Khaama Press reported Monday (February 20).

The Taliban leader headed a group of at least 30 insurgents, the NDS said in a statement.
