Taliban fighters target rival faction in Herat

HERAT -- A group of Taliban fighters launched a coordinated attack on a compound of a rival faction in Herat, Khaama Press reported Tuesday (February 28).

At least two suicide attackers on Sunday (February 26) stormed a compound of a rival group led by Mullah Rasool, and clashes lasted a half hour, leaving the attackers and three rival Taliban fighters dead, provincial governor spokesman Jilani Farhad said.

Neither group commented on the incident.

Meanwhile, Afghan forces killed at least seven members of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) in Haska Mina District, Nangarhar Province, and five in Darzab District, Jawzjan Province, officials said Tuesday (February 28), according to Khaama Press and TOLO News. The battle in Jawzjan took place Monday (February 27).
