55 Taliban killed, more than 200 surrender

KABUL -- Afghan forces killed 55 militants in two provinces and accepted the surrender of more than 200 in Balkh Province, media reported.

An air strike in Maiwand District, Kandahar Province, killed a Taliban leader identified only as Mohammad, said the Ministry of Defence (MoD), according to a Saturday (April 1) report by Khaama Press.

Mohammad transported suicide bombers to their targets, said authorities.

Security forces killed 54 other Taliban militants in a week during the on-going Operation Khalid outside Tirin Kot, Uruzgan Province, Afghan National Army spokesman Brig. Gen. Gulam Hazrat Kakar told Pajhwok Afghan News Sunday (April 2).

More than 200 Taliban surrendered to authorities in Balkh Province, said the provincial government press office, Khaama Press reported Sunday.
