43 militants killed; shadow Taliban chief nabbed

URUZGAN -- At least 43 militants were killed and a Taliban shadow district chief arrested in operations nationwide in the past 24 hours, said the Afghan Ministry of Defence (MoD), Khaama Press reported Thursday (April 6).

An air strike in Tirin Kot, Uruzgan Province, blew up an explosive-laden vehicle, killing at least 20 militants, said the MoD.

Other operations killed 10 militants in Herat Province, 6 militants in Helmand Province, and 6 militants in Paktika Province, added the MoD.

Troops killed one more militant in Shah Joy District, Zabul Province.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) arrested a Taliban-designated shadow chief of Hazrat Sultan District, Samangan Province, after a gun battle, Khaama Press reported.
