Staff Report

KABUL -- The Ministry of Defence (MoD) fired about 24 officers over an attack in April on a military base in Balkh Province that killed hundreds of soldiers, MoD announced Monday (May 29), according to TOLO News.

The reported death toll varies from 130 to more than 250.

The government is investigating all those who were on base at the time and will prosecute any suspects in connection with the massacre, said MoD spokesman Dawlat Waziri.

Militants stormed the base in Dehdadi District, killing mostly unarmed troops.

Investigators have not identified the masterminds yet, reported TOLO News.
