JALALABAD -- Afghan security forces eliminated at least 44 militants of "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) and claimed to have cleared the strategic Tora Bora area of the insurgents, Khaama Press reported Wednesday (June 21).
Troops launched the operation after ISIS sought to create sanctuaries in the Tora Bora part of Nangarhar Province, said Afghan National Army Gen. Mohammad Zaman Waziri.
All the ISIS insurgents in Tora Bora were foreign fighters, said Nangarhar Governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal claimed.
