TAPI pipeline construction in Afghanistan to begin within year, says chairman

KABUL -- Construction of the Afghan part of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) natural-gas pipeline is expected to begin within a year, TOLO News reported Thursday (July 6), quoting Muhummet Murat Amanov, chairman of the TAPI project.

Once completed, the pipeline will enable Afghanistan, Pakistan and India to receive 33 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year.

Afghanistan will start laying pipe within a year, said Amanov, adding that officials are conducting studies of possible routes and environmental impact.
