Kabul demonstrators protest Iranian stance on Afghan dams

Salaam Times

KABUL -- More than 100 Afghans demonstrated near the Iranian embassy in Kabul Sunday (July 9), according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

The demonstrators objected to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's stated concerns last week over Afghan plans to build more dams for agricultural and electrical purposes, which Rouhani claimed would affect rivers flowing into Iran.

Civil society organisations in Afghanistan are urging the government to accelerate work on various dams in the interests of national security, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

Afghanistan has the right to use its natural resources without interference, say Afghan officials, according to Khaama Press.
