Afghan troops retake Nawa District from Taliban

HELMAND -- Afghan security forces Monday (July 17) retook control of Nawa District, Helmand Province, killing 20 militants, media reported.

Troops Saturday (July 15) launched the operation from three directions, clearing the district and recapturing key areas like the district centre, TOLO News reported, quoting the provincial government.

One soldier was killed.

The Taliban had held Nawa for nine months.
