Afghan troops kill dozens of militants nationwide

KABUL -- Fighting throughout Afghanistan left dozens of militants dead, media reported.

Afghan troops killed 14 "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) militants in Achin District, Nangarhar Province, in a 24-hour span, according to the provincial government press office, Khaama Press reported.

The dead included several foreign fighters.

In another incident in Nangarhar Province, seven ISIS militants were killed by their own explosives inside a house in Pacheragam District, Tuesday (July 18), according to the Nangarhar government, Khaama Press reported.

Also in Nangarhar, a Taliban militant Tuesday killed two of his own leaders in an insider attack in Bati Kot District, Khaama Press reported, quoting local officials. The killer's fate was not reported.

Meanwhile in Gero District, Ghazni Province, Afghan troops killed 24 Taliban militants in a two-day operation ending Tuesday, Pajhwok Afghan News reported Wednesday (July 19), quoting the Afghan National Army (ANA).

Troops fought Taliban militants in Baghlan Province, losing four of their own men, said Baghlan health officials, according to a Tuesday report by TOLO News. Militant casualties were not reported.

In Faryab Province, four soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb Tuesday and five police officers by a Taliban attack Monday (July 17), according to Pajhwok Afghan News.
