Dozens of Taliban killed in Helmand; 4 ISIS members surrender in Jawzjan

KABUL -- At least 49 Taliban militants were killed in Helmand Province in two separate battles Wednesday and Thursday (July 19 and 20), according to media.

Troops killed 18 militants who attacked security outposts in Gereshk District Thursday after three suicide bombers driving Humvees stormed the outposts, reported TOLO News.

In Garmsir District, two police officers and 31 militants were killed Tuesday (July 18) when security forces repulsed a Taliban attack on security outposts, Khaama Press reported Wednesday.

In Jawzjan Province, four members of the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) surrendered Wednesday, TOLO News reported Thursday, quoting provincial police.

Eleven police officers and a soldier were killed in Zabul and Logar provinces, reported TOLO News. Taliban militants killed eight police officers in Arghandab District, Zabul Province, in fighting that began Tuesday and ended Wednesday. A soldier in the area was killed by a roadside bomb.

In Baraki Barak District, Logar Province, a Taliban ambush Wednesday left three police officers dead.
