Swedish NGO shuts down Laghman clinics till further notice

KABUL -- The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) is ceasing operations in Laghman Province after receiving threats from militant groups, the SCA said in a Wednesday (July 26) statement.

The decision shuts down 20 clinics and the SCA's provincial Health Management Office until further notice, said the SCA. It warned of "a devastating effect" on the affected Afghans if the facilities do not reopen.

Meanwhile, in Sheberghan, Jawzjan Province, the Taliban Wednesday abducted two doctors travelling on the Sheberghan-Mazar-e-Sharif highway, confirmed security officials, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

The kidnappers spirited away the doctors and their vehicle, said Jawzjan provincial police.
