Afghan forces kill 85 Taliban in Paktika, Uruzgan

KABUL -- Afghan troops killed 85 Taliban militants throughout Afghanistan, media reported.

Troops killed 70 insurgents in battle in Gomal District, Paktika Province, Wednesday (August 2), reported Pajhwok Afghan News.

Two police officers were killed, said acting provincial police chief Dadullah Khan Hotak.

Police killed 15 Taliban members in Tirin Kot, Uruzgan Province, but lost five of their own officers, reported Pajhwok Afghan News Wednesday, quoting provincial police. The fighting broke out Tuesday (August 1).

Meanwhile, in Dasht-i-Archi District, Kunduz Province, two Taliban members were killed by their own prematurely detonating explosives, said the Afghan National Army, Khaama Press reported Wednesday.
