KABUL -- Two former Afghan generals were sentenced to prison for misusing their authority, Pajhwok Afghan News reported Sunday (August 13).
An anti-corruption court in Kabul convicted former Lt. Gen. Mohammad Moeen Faqir and former Brig. Gen. Fazal Rahman Andarabi that day. They said they would appeal the sentences.
Faqir received five years and three months in prison for illegally appointing 30 Afghans to security-personnel positions in Sangin District, Helmand Province. Andarabi received three years and three months for aiding and abetting Faqir.
Both ex-generals were ordered to pay restitution.
Three other army officers were acquitted.
