Fighting kills 90 Taliban, ISIS militants in 3 provinces

SHARAN -- Ninety Taliban and "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) militants were killed in Paktika, Uruzgan, and Nangarhar provinces, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.

Security forces killed 40 Taliban militants in Gomal District, Paktika Province, when they attacked the district capital Wednesday (August 16).

Clashes between troops and the Taliban have been raging in Gomal for 18 days, said Abdul Qadeer Kharotai, a member of the Wolesi Jirga.

In fighting on the Uruzgan-Kandahar highway, three police officers and five Taliban militants were killed, police told Pajhwok Afghan News.

In Achin District, Nangarhar Province, a coalition air strike Wednesday killed 45 ISIS militants, Pajhwok Afghan News reported Thursday, quoting Nangarhar police.
