Hundreds gather in Kabul to support new US strategy

KABUL -- Hundreds of youth from four southern provinces of Afghanistan gathered in Kabul Thursday (September 14) to announce their support for the new US strategy on Afghanistan, reported BBC Persian that day.

Youths from Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan and Zabul provinces, known as Taliban strongholds, expressed their backing of the decision in August to keep US troops in Afghanistan.

"The US as a trusted and strategic partner provides the legal and political balance in the region and the world and takes part as a powerful partner to create balance in regional politics," said Jawed Faisal, a member of Kandahar's youth council, TOLO News reported Thursday.

Members of the gathering urged the Afghan government to consider giving youth more of a voice in decision making. They also urged youth nationwide to come together in resolving the country's turmoil.
