HERAT -- At least 40 Taliban militants were killed during clashes between rival factions in Herat Province, Khaama Press reported Sunday (October 22).
The clashes took place in Shindand District, according to Jilani Farhad, a spokesman for the provincial governor.
Factions loyal to Taliban supreme leader Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada and his rival Mullah Muhammad Rasool turned their guns on each other, said Farhad.
The Taliban did not comment.
