NANGARHAR -- Afghan special forces have killed a senior Taliban leader who was in charge of the group's prisons in Nangarhar Province, Khaama Press reported Thursday (December 7).
Nabi, who was also known as Ghorzang, was killed alongside 13 other militants during a military operation Wednesday (December 6) in Hesarak District, the provincial government media office said in a statement.
Abdul Hasan, the Taliban shadow district governor for the district, and Yar Mohammad, the group's shadow education director for the district, were among those killed, the statement said.
Troops destroyed a compound that militants used as a customs house, it added.
How likely is it that the Taliban will fracture after the recent ceasefire exposed divisions in the group?
