Taliban leader killed by militant land mine in Kunduz

KUNDUZ -- A land mine planted by the Taliban killed one of their own leaders in Kunduz, according to Afghan officials.

Dost Mohammad, the Taliban shadow district governor for Khanabad, was killed after he stepped on a mine that had been planted by his own fighters, said the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army in a statement posted on its Facebook page Thursday (December 21).

The Taliban leader and his bodyguard were killed when they were attempting to escape from Afghan security forces during an operation in Ibrahim Khil village, the statement said.

The Taliban had no immediate comment.
