BALKH -- A roadside bomb in Balkh Province has killed at least six children, Khaama Press reported Thursday (December 28), citing local officials.

The incident took place in Dawlatabad District, said Mohammad Karim, the district administrative chief.

Children killed in the explosion were eight, nine and ten years old, Karim said.

No group claimed responsibility but the attack bore the hallmarks of the Taliban.

Last week, a roadside mine planted by the Taliban killed one of their own leaders in Kunduz Province.
