ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani authorities have found the family of an Afghan boy who became lost in the country years ago and transferred him to the Afghan embassy in Pakistan, Geo News reported Friday (January 19).

Ubaidullah came to Pakistan a few years ago with his parents, who were seeking medical treatment for his father in Islamabad. Ubaidullah went missing after his father's death, but his mother had to return to Afghanistan, according to a statement from the Pakistani Foreign Office.

Islamabad police found Ubaidullah in November 2015. Pakistani authorities located his family after several years of work.

Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua Friday handed Ubaidullah over to the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad. He will be travelling to Afghanistan to reunite with his family, the statement said.

The government and people of Afghanistan deeply appreciate Pakistan's efforts, said a statement from the Afghan embassy.
