Salaam Times

HERAT -- Afghan security forces Tuesday (March 13) arrested an Iranian national in Herat Province accused of attempting to smuggle a large amount of heroin to Iran, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.

The suspect hid 29kg of heroin in his truck and was en route to Iran when he was arrested in Islam Qala, along the Iranian-Afghan border, said Herat police spokesman Abdul Ahad Wali Zadah.

Afghan officials have accused the Taliban of funding their insurgency through drug smuggling.
