Taliban kill border police commander in Kandahar

KANDAHAR -- An explosion Wednesday (April 18) killed a commander with the Kandahar border police, TOLOnews reported, citing local officials.

Col. Janan Mama, commander of the the Crisis Response Unit (CRU) for the provincial unit of border police, was killed when a magnetic mine on his vehicle was detonated in Kandahar city, said Kandahar police spokesman Zia Durani.

The blast wounded three bodyguards, said Durani.

The Taliban claimed responsibility.
