KABUL -- The death toll from apparent co-ordinated attacks on two Kabul police stations has risen to 10, the Health Ministry said Thursday (May 10).
At least 23 people were also wounded in the hours-long assaults Wednesday (May 9) in the capital, the ministry said. The Taliban and the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) group each claimed responsibility for one of the attacks.
But Afghanistan's intelligence agency (the National Directorate of Security [NDS]) blamed the Taliban's Haqqani Network and Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba for both incidents.
The Taliban said the attack in front of a police station in the Shahr-e-Naw neighbourhood was revenge for an Afghan air strike on a religious ceremony in a Taliban stronghold in northern Afghanistan on April 2.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the raid on a police station in a heavily Shia-populated neighbourhood.
