KABUL -- President Ashraf Ghani and US Vice President Mike Pence discussed peace talks and the ceasefire with the Taliban in a phone call Thursday (June 21), Ghani's office said in a statement.
Pence welcomed Ghani's decision to call a ceasefire with the Taliban and reiterated support for the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 20, said the statement.
Pence "reinforced the US and international commitment to partner with and support the Afghan government and security forces", according to a White House statement.
Pence "commended Ghani’s efforts to make progress on" negotiating an end to the Afghan war, added the White House.
